Title: Waxing, Mold Underneath - Recommendations?

I just made my first farmhouse cheddar and I painted on the wax.  I guess I did'nt do such a great job and the wax was clear making it tough to see my coverage.  Anyway 3 weeks later I've got mold in all the nooks and crannies.

Can I remove the wax, wipe down the cheese and then properly dip it for continued aging?
