Title: Havarti, Store Bought - Bad Smell, OK To Eat?
Post by: chippy on January 27, 2011, 02:16:49 AM
Yesterday I purchased some plain havarti cheese from a local meat market and when I brought it home there was a tiny, tiny bit of what looked to be mold in the corner, and an awful smell - very noticeable - even from a far.

I returned it today - got my money back, and selected a new one from their shelf. This time their seems to be no mold, and the smell is mostly normal but if I sniff for a few seconds, I can still notice a very slight hint of the moldy/awful smell that the first cheese possessed.

I've purchased the same type of cheese from the same store many times so I don't think its normal, but then again I never really gave it an up-close good smell. If its from the same batch, would it be okay to eat as long as it doesn't reek or have mold like the first one did?
