I'm curious if anyone knows what the difference is between a soil PH meter and one used in making Beer/Wine/Cheese?
I know this must sound crazy but I'm really quite curious as I've seen very inexpensive soil ph meters whereas the $100-$160 'food grade' ones are pretty high priced for newbies or those just dabbling in making cheese.
If the soil meter you can buy for $20 actually works and is safe to use then why not at least experiment with one? Then if you really get into making cheese you can spend the $$$ to buy the good meter.
I ask this because I've found sometimes there are less expensive alternatives to things that actually work -- sometimes their aint.
I bought the Woodmizer mill for our farm because I wouldn't waste money on an inferior product like the Harbor Freight mill ($1k less), however I've also saved $500 buying a cheapo generator that 4 years later still works fine.
Know what I mean? Anyway, I'm only curious at this point.
Ol Jarhead, I've looked at the cheapo soil pH meters but most are analog and not sensitive enough for cheese making.

Ahhh makes sense. I bought a Hanna from the home beer making supply store and decided to try that. Was a little more spendy then buying online but I don't mind supporting a local store.
