Just wanted to let the members here know that I ran across an ExTech PH100 on ebay for $29.95 + about $6.00 shipping. It's brand new. I'm not sure what people normally pay but it seems they usually run around $80 or so. Here's the link.....

Marine, that's an insanely good deal - the seller's got good rep as well. Cheese to you for pointing it out.
By the way, hello, from a former corpsman. Nice to meet you here.

Nice to meet you too Doc!
I'm new to cheese making but thought I read that the Extech is one pH meter that many here use. I purchased a different meter before I knew this so I went ahead and picked up the Extech when I found it on ebay at that price considering it usually runs around $80. The other one I purchased would probably have done the job but I need all the help I can get!
Just to let everyone know, I believe there is only one left at this price. The link above will take you directly to the auction.

I just bought 2 brand new on E-bay for $64 including shipping. Lower prices like this often indicate that an item is about to be phased out. At these prices, it's worth buying extras just for the electrodes.
Bah, I bought one and just got an email from the seller saying they were defective and was refunded.
Would have been nice to have a spare.
How could they know that they are defective if they are new????
Here is the email I got.

Hi, I am very sorry. These meters were sold to me at a church sale and the
seller said that they were brand new and just needed new batteries. It is
now apparent that these meters are defective. I will provide a full refund.
I am very sorry for the trouble I caused you. Please accept my apologies.
Best regards,
]]
I got the same message, but mine already shipped. I'll give it a try when it arrives, and see if it really is defective.

I got the exact same message. That church sure had a lot of pH meters. :o
FISHY at best.
They were apparently donated as a lot, probably because of damage. The seller says the tips are cracked. I'm going to try mine when it arrives (it had been shipped before he got news of the damage) and if it works, OK. If the tip is beyond repair I'll try it with the tip from my own meter and make sure the meter part works. They may be worth getting as a lot, and getting replacement tips for $40 a piece. I'll post on this thread when I get it.

What seller did you guys purchase from? I received an email saying mine was shipped but haven't received an email saying it is damaged.
I sure hope my post about the pH meters didn't cause anyone any headaches! My apologies if it did.
I bought mine from ebay member nannycat1868.

ditto
I too purchased mine from that seller although I didn't recieve an email saying it was disfunctional. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. It should arrive tomorrow but I won't be able to get to the post office before they close until next Monday. Hopefully the post master will be able to stuff it in my box. I'll keep everyone posted on whether or not it works.
Hope everyone had a great Monday!
I got my meter yesterday. The tip was not damaged, though the solution in the cap had almost dried out. I calibrated it this morning, and checked it against my other meter, and they are both giving the same readings.

That's great to know Dave! Thanks for the update.
Once I'm able to pick my up from the post office I will compare it to my other meter and report back. It won't be until next week though.
