Can anyone recomend what type of cleaner to use for cleaning milk cans, cheese molds, and other utensils or pots that come into contact with cheese, milk, etc.
Thanks
I use a chlorinated general cleanser from Eastern dairy supply in Vernon NY. They do not have a website. I use it for all my utensils from milk pail to cheese vat.
thanks SteffB, is that an all purpose cleaner and sanitizer in one. You mention that you also use it in your vat, does it break down the curd residue fairly well. I have to really scrub my vat to get the cheese film out.
No it would not be considered a sanitizer, not by the state anyway.
For that i use a simple bleach/water solution.
I do use it in my vat. For stuck on milk I wash immediately after draining curds. If i can not do it immediately I will add some more warm water above the line to soak. I will at least scrub out the milk line immediately.
There are several acid based cleaners on the market that will do a much better job on milk residue.
The old standby is;

Ask for milk stone remover. Since we get a calcium based buildup and acid wash dissolves it best.
