Hi everyone,
Susannah from northern Vermont, USA here, just wanting to finally introduce myself after lurking and learning for the last few months. I have diary goats and have been making cheese for a few years (chèvre, ricotta, feta) as well as yogurt and kefir but it is due to the wonderful and deep resources of this forum that I ventured beyond the familiar cheeses.
I made my first successful brie a few weeks ago (yay!) and it was thanks to reading the posts and taking the advice of all the experienced cheesemakers here that my 3rd try was a success.
I'm excited to have my profile up and running and, yes, I will be asking questions :).
Hi Dragonfish,

Welcome!
Welcome to the fray ;)
Welcome !
Welcome Dragonfish! You are so lucky to be in the best cheese producing state in the US (actually I would think in the entire American continent though some would argue that Quebec, California or Wisconsin gives it a run for its money. To me Vermont is in a class of its own).
Do you sell milk or just your own cheese? How many goats do you have?
Happy cheesemaking!
Yoav
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I need it - just came in from milking and the temperature is dropping. We have been spoiled this weird winter. There is no snow on the ground to speak of and it has been mild. Today was closer to real winter, 1 degree F at 7 am.
I have three goats. They are all Alpine crosses - Daisy, Lilac and Tulip. Right now I am milking Daisy and Tulip. I milk once a day and they give me about 1.5 gal. a day. I can't legally sell cheese and I could sell milk legally if I wanted to adhere to a lot of regulations. I am of the mindset that consenting adults can decide for themselves what they want to eat and drink. Quite a rebellious thought according to the Dept, of Health...haha.
That said, Vermont does have a wonderful diverse range of cheesemakers and very very good cheese.
Welcome to the forum Susannah.
