Hey folks,

I have a large, virtually unused basement and I was wondering if any of you out there has created a cheese room/cave and if so, could you post some pics? I'm trying get a feel for the cost.

Sam I have built a meat/sausage curing room in the basement but it can only be used at certain times of the year depending on the weather. Right now it is 52* with 74% humidity, the humidity is adjustable but temperature adjustments are a bit more work

Hey Reg,

Do you have any pics? What materials did you use?

Thanks, Sam

Sam my room is in the basement on a north wall, concrete floor and exterior block wall. The room itself is typical 2x4 construction, insulated walls and ceiling and a pair of cheap doors. The circulating air is picked up off the floor in the main room and forced through 5" aluminum flex piping. The humidity is supplied by a cold mist humidifier and it all runs on a timer.

Nice!. So would a window unit be the way that you control the temp? If you were going to try?

Hi Sam
I remember reading on the forum about people using coolbots  to do this.
Search the forum and I suspect you will find something that will steer you in the right direction.

Make sure you post your eventual solution as I am definitely interested to see what works for you

Good luck
Mathew

Sam, I'm not to sure about controlling temps as I know nothing about AC. I did spend a few minutes yesterday referencing the coolbot that was mentioned and it certainly looks like it would do the job in conjunction with an AC unit. I do know that the AC unit takes the humidity out of any room. After the holidays I'm going to have an in depth look at how these things work
