Hoops - Wooden, Making

I have seen some moulds that are made from wood and am wondering what would be the best kind of wood to use to make a mould.  I assume too that you dont put any type of finish on the wood either, do you?

Usually, a food grade sealer may be just any kind of vegetable oil. I never apply it even to my cutting boards.
