Hello,
I like cheese with natural rind, so I need better humidity in cave.
Here is my 'humidifier', to build it you need 12cm fan, 2 plastic container ( other one is little pit more deep ), 5 bamboo stick and piece of cheesecloth.
I think that cheesecloth can't be too thick, air must go through it.
It has been running now 2 weeks and Rh is between 80-88%.
And it gives also some smooth air circulation in cave.
I have power supply where you can adjust fan speed.

Hande, you truly astound me.  Ingenious, elegant solution. :)

The water reservoir is under the fan?

Hande

Yes, water is under fan.
Fan suck moist air at first and then blow out it after moist cheesecloth.
I have that:  http://www.clasohlson.fi/Product/LargeImageViewer.aspx?Path=/Archive/Images/Products/Hi/323492A_X_2009-02-09_105114_378.jpg ,
to get more security in elecrity.

I wonder if you can rig the 12\9V fan to be battery operated with a reasonable operation time.
I dont see myself running "live" wires into a moist\wet area .

Hande

Tomer,  that's why I use that: http://www.clasohlson.fi/Product/LargeImageViewer.aspx?Path=/Archive/Images/Products/Hi/323492A_X_2009-02-09_105114_378.jpg
I don't see differet that if some one use laptop cooler in fridge.
But maybe I'm wrong, can somebody  tell is there something risky to use that kind cooler/fan in moist area ?

Hey, Hande.

How often do you have to refill the water resevoir? I think your system looks good, unique. Have you had any problems with it shorting out? Is there any condensation that develops on the fan?

Thanks for sharing!

Hande

Water reservoir is 1l and it's enough for 5 days.
It's easy to take out and put more water.
I don't see any condensation inside container. Cheesecloth must be shape like that, otherwise it's start dipping water in fan.

Now I'm not sure is it safe system. Can 12v get some accident if wires going in water ?

Its going through a step down transformer first right?
As long as the cables are well insulated you should be find, for extra insurance you can seal up the motor casing with silicon or epoxy.

Yes power going first transformer what gives out 2V-12v.
That silicon sounds good idea, I do that.
Thank you.

What a great setup,  and your cheese's look superb!

Mountbaldybrewing

Hande it looks great!

One idea I have for you is to use that green foam material they use for planters (and cigar humidor humidifiers) in your water reservoir under your fan.  That's how my humidifier in my humidor.   You just load that thing up with water and let her go.

Hande

Yes, now I get out humidifier no:2  :)
It's much thin and effective.
it's get rh% 90-98% at between 6-12v.

Hande-this just gorgeous! The beauty is in the simplicity. I have a chest freezer that I'm converting to an aging cave and this looks like the solution for my humidity issue. Can you share the specs with me on what you used to create this one? What a blessing! :-*
