Hello all from Rhode island. Names Frank, was lead here through my 10 year search for the family tree wich has lead me to diaries by relatives from the Lazio and Campangia regions. They wrote about missing the fresh homemade cured meats and cheeses. Some of the recipes I've already found on this forum...But I still got many many many more to find. 105 cheese recipes, and 39 or so meat recipes to find.

I'm doing all this to bring home the old country and the family roots to a family that's long lost touch with it's roots, and for my son's sake, it's time to bring the roots back.

Welcome, good for you!

Fine art of cheese making needs greater rejuvination, if you have any old relataives, maybe some of them have old stories on making cheese. Either way have fun here . . . what's the story with your son?

Welcome, Grendal - I'm in RI also (EP).  Sounds like a challenge - worth another 10 years, perhaps. :)  At least - 105 different cheeses??!!  Wow!

Well I've been searching the family tree....At first I wanted to find out what the family crests were. I wanted to know where we came from. Researching an italian family is hard...so many branches it's hard to keep track of them all. I've managed to go as far back as my great great great grandmother Maria, and my great great great grandfather Mauro. My great great great grandfather came from lazio, a town called Castelnuovo Parano. My great great great grandmother Maria came from Campania, a town called Caserta.

Over the years the family seems less and less italian...so I wanted to bring back the roots. I want my son to know where he comes from, I want him to grow up with his roots, and I wanna pass those roots down to him. He's only 16 months old, but he'll be old enough to help soon. My 10 years of geneology research brought me to their diaries. They talked about getting up early to collect milk for the cheeses, and making of salumi. They talked about the ones they missed, and they went into detail of wich ones they missed. Though there does seem to be some notes scratched in the sides names of cheeses and meats, I think they might of been more recent additions from family, maybe ones they enjoyed. Either way, we need the roots brought back into the family.

My older relatives who took part in cheese making died 1 year after the end of world war 2. 1946 my great great great grandma maria passed away, from what I could find she passed in her sleep. She was 65, and I have not found the death record for Mauro. He did travel back and forth to italy several times during his life...The last time was on the S.S Andria Doria, 2 years before she sank. That was nov 2nd 1953. He was 74 during that last trip.

The realization dawned on me we lost touch with the family roots, when my cousin walked up to me and asked what's this cheese in my veal parmesan...I told her that's mozzarella....She looked at me like I had three heads and said...what's mozzarella. I tried to explain it to her and she said...that's an italian cheese?

@George (MarryJ) I'm from EG. It's a major challenge. My boy is well worth tackling that challenge.
