Waxed cheddar blowing up

So my waxed cheddar looked good and was air dried for a few days before being waxed.

It looked good for a week but then the wax slowly started inflating. A small pin hole then appeared, thankfully it didn't explode, and some whey leaked out. The whey smells fine. Just like fresh whey, so I don't think anything too nasty is going on.

Should I just leave it to do its thing and continue to mature it or should I cut the wax off and re wax it? Or is it spoiled and I throw it out?

Advice appreciated

I'm a novice here, so take that into consideration.  But my understanding is that when a cheese that has been waxed or bagged shows signs of whey still being given off by the cheese it was sealed up too soon.  You need to remove the wax, dry off the cheese and let it sit drying for at least another day or so before rewaxing.  I believe that if the cheese is allowed to age wet under the wax it will spoil.

Yes, what Qari said. Let it dry well, maybe a week or so, then re-wax.

OK Great. Thanks for the replies. I'll get the wax off and assess the situation and rewax if it's ok
